Herzlichen Glückwunsch zum Geburtstag!
Happy Birthday to our Prince!
Hartelijk Gefeliciteerd met Uw verjaardag!

Today is a very special day in our country’s history. It is the birthday of our Prince!
Furstentum of Rheinbergen

The Prince of Rheinbergen is His Serene Highness Gerardus Wilhelmus Theodorus Cornielje, an enlightened monarch who rules Fürstentum Rheinbergen along the principles of Enlightened Absolutism. Under the benevolent rule of HSH Gerard subjects of Rheinbergen enjoy complete religious freedom, freedom of speech and of the press, the right to dual or multiple nationality* and the right of private property.

HSH Gerard encourages his citizens to increase their knowledge of the ecology of the Rhine and of ecological issues affecting the quality of life in and along the river. He also supports efforts to improve the ecosystem of the Rhine, the health and well-being of its native flora and fauna, and the well-being of our riparian neighbors, who depend upon our river for sustenance, sport, and amusement.

The Principality was founded out of a desire to fill an unfulfilled need our Prince saw in the world: Namely one of accountability or maybe the lack of it would be a better term to use.

"The main idea was to create an alternative nation which emphasizes heraldry, art and the environment. Another important factor is politics: I think democracy is not working as it should, and now a secure hereditary monarchy is a better answer.Where one person is responsible who cannot be purchased for a better positioning in a market by a large uncaring or non responsible corporation. Or for a country who removes itself from the courts of law, in order to run roughshod over its citizenry."-HSH Gerard.

It is the hope the Principality of Rheinbergen can provide an opportunity for unity within Europe over the management and treatment of the Rhein River, it's tributaries and the estuary where it meets the sea. To this end, our Prince has begun the process of making alliances with several Non Governmental Organizations who have decided the Rhein is worth saving. More importantly the river's ecology is worth preserving and bringing back of wild fish and other aquatic creatures lost to pollution and overfishing is a worthy endeavor.

The biggest potential ecological impact Rheinbergen might have in our Principality is fostering and promoting a solution to the eight hydroelectric dams owned by Electricite' de France (EDF) from Strasbourg to Basel. EDF who have so far have balked at doing anything more than saying they "will look into" studying the problem with creating fish ladders. Fish ladders are manmade stairs that allow migrating fish to travel either around or over obstacles in their way like a large Hydroelectric Dam.

HSH Gerard, believes a solution has already presented itself which is both scalable (Meaning it can be made larger or smaller as the fish population demands.) and most importantly, cost effective in this time of economic stress in the Euro Zone. Whooshh Innovations, an American company has created a fish transportation system which can overcome almost any vertical limitation, it is also safe for the fish, and most importantly doesn't have to be a permanent installation in the river.

Here is their company website:www.whooshh.com

HSH Gerard, believes it is important to firmly establish the traditions of our country which will help guide us in the coming years. Being able to communicate easily and effectively is one tenant in our principality he feels strongly about. Social media such as Facebook has played a huge part in our founding. It will continue to do so, by allowing Bürger, Ritter and Prince to directly communicate with each other. HSH Gerard has launched a Facebook page, and will be opening up a "Room" for his subjects to communicate with each other and post their wants, desires or concerns.

Rheinbergians and HSH Gerard, are also interested in supporting various sports programs, to that end avenues are being explored to create several National Rheinbergen Teams, for international competition in both Europe and abroad. Final plans should be announced before the end of September.
One of the traditions our Prince has decided which needed to be established is having a meritocracy in place within our Principality. Our country shall be guided by our Prince but it shall prosper due to the work and efforts of our fellow Rheinbergians.
To quote the dictionary: " A meritocracy is an elite group of people whose progress is based on ability and talent rather than on class, privilege, and or wealth.”

HSH Gerard believes it does not matter what your origins are, nor does he care what your station in life might be. Rheinbergen is an opportunity for a fresh start. To feel like you are a part of something bigger than yourself and you are no longer apart from your country or your system of governance. Here our Bürgers can and do make a difference. Those who put forth the effort have their work recognized.

On his birthday, HSH Gerardus Wilhelmus Theodorus Cornielje Sovereign Prince of Rheinbergen has declared he will publish his Birthday Honors list. He will also publish a second honors list on the anniversary of our Nation's Foundation day February 18th.

For his birthday our Prince would like to honor the following Rheinbergians for their service to the Crown, and in doing so establish the tradition of recognizing the talent and skills of his subjects.
